Life as a Visual Artist in Montgomeryshire and Shrewsbury.

A few years ago I was introduced to an 8 year old Brindle Whippet that a friend had agreed to take responsibility for from an RSPCA Centre. I have loved so many animals but loved this little Whippet so much from that very first moment and he went on to make me appreciate all living things like nothing before and after he left us aged 14 he made me realise the importance of all the special moments in every day. Smudgie changed my life big time, probably even more than my love for art did as a teenager,…….. Oh, and by the way, did I mention that he made me laugh so much.

A mixture of comedy, animation and playing with visual elements is alwsys central to my art practice and does keep my outlook largely youthful and positive. To me, this keeps my drawing and painting authentic as well as both free and skillful. This method blended with a love of art history and philosophy works well for myself and allows my artwork to retain a lively, fun, refreshing and convincing quality.

Mihangel is my adopted artist name so as to make my artwork more easy to find…….it is the Welsh word for, ‘Michael’ and I, Michael Mihangel, was happily brought up by The North Yorkshire Moors in a creative and supportive family, studied Fine Art in the most gorgeous Sheffield and I am now living in Montgomeryshire with strong connections to Shrewsbury: Lovely places.
