Painting with Heart and Energy.

Painting with Heart and Energy.

Is this refreshing, exciting on-location painting that feels positive and inspiring?

Few artists work directly from life because people and objects shift around or get obstructed, making it difficult to capture a scene intact.

I find those changing elements invigorating — the shifting light and shade, mutable shapes and evolving space allow me to experiment more freely with colour, marks and technique.

It’s like carrying a tiny studio into the flow of everyday life, responding in real time with choice to big and small alteration.

This beautiful artwork was painted at The Shrewsbury Coffeehouse SY1 2AE, on Saturday 4th July 2026. What a gem with two cracking dogs, two people and a lampshade, and a lovely way of painting in this spontaneous, observational way.

Do you think that this spontaneous and daring approach speaks volumes for positivity and inspiration?

I recently heard a quote by David Hockney on how important it was to him manage his time. And likewise my approach to painting gives lots of time to living other parts of my life although creative thinking never leaves my side.

On the subject of quality of life…Do you think designers and architects could do a lot more in providing positivity and inspiration in social and private environments so as to promote wellbeing?
